You are gonna hate me for this, but sometimes I truly feel bad for both sides.

I think it's legitimate to feel bad for both sides.

I do loathe the moral equivalence that many people use to suggest that, for example, the Israelis are just as bad as the terrorists. The same is true when it comes to assessment of U.S. foreign policy - people are non-interventionists militarily, but have no problem with sending monetary aid to other countries (thus interventionists).

Unfortunately, while populism and even outright hypocrisy may have some merit in a given situation, these things have little place in our foreign policy. Still, I agree that terrorism can look a lot like a legitimate revolution (and some of the causes can seem superficially similar), but ultimately, you have to look at the motivations of the terrorist/revolutionary group to determine its validity. If the group is fighting for freedom, it is a legit revolutionary group. If it is fighting to oppress others, as is the majority of Islam (outside the U.S), they are terrorists.

It may be a judgment call, but it's not a very tough call to make in most instances.
