Guns yet again...
This post is for Linda and others who are slowly getting tired of all my gun posts :)
It's a pretty even handed way of looking at the roots of the issue and why we have different beliefs. Why no matter how many times I rant and rave about the 2nd amendment we won't agree. It all boils down to belief and culture.
Give it a read if you have time. Don't be scared away from the pink banner at the top of the page either.
Hat tip to Kevin.

What I think the conflict boils down to is a struggle between the collectivists & the individualists. It's not a question of trust per se, it's a question of faith. It’s a belief that one system is better, more ideal than the other.

That is a good read, but I feel like there is some middle ground missing here. For example: where would you fit in if you don't mind if your neighbor has a gun for personal protection but you don't necessarily want them to have a nuclear warhead to knock out the East Coast?
As I have stated before, I really don't have problems with anybody owning a gun, I just prefer not to myself. I can agree with some of what this guy says. I am a bit of a socialist when it comes to politics, but I am not sure that I think that the government is all powerful and should be the only ones having guns. I personally find that our military and some freeman groups are equally scary.
Otter, remind me to tell you about my uncle sometime, so that you understand that I understand this stuff better than you think. I can not elaborate now, but will whenever you ask. I can only say that the idea of the right to bare arms can make some people go to extremes.
I don't think you or any body else are wrong for owning or wanting to own a gun. It is your right under the constitution. I find it iteresting when people want to own guns, because it is so different from the way I think. I say that I don't think you are wrong, but maybe deep down inside I do.
I will give this another read though and if I have any changes in thought or come to some kind of revelation about owning a gun personally, you will be the first to know.
Linda, this post wasn't a poke or a jab... I think I'm begining to see that by debating guns constantly, I'm going to have little or no success doing anything other than "preaching to the choir."
I'm still going to post the occasional gun post, but I wanted you to know that I am slowly gaining some insite as to why some people just don't see the world the way I do. The post above wasn't meant to explain you or anyone in particular. It was just one of the first times I could say to myself "hmmm if they really believe that, they would have a problem with this."
My feelings won't be hurt if you just skip reading about when I "gets all gun preachy."
I still plan to write about stupid things.

Maybe you are meant to challange me. Maybe we will never see eye to eye, but that is okay. I actually have more patience with you than I do with Bob at times, so don't worry about me! I will continue to read, including the "gun-nut" posts.
