Honking....
You are supposed to "Honk" to support the Bay, "Honk" if you are Horny and "Honk to see our tits" but you CAN NOT honk to correct a Police officer.

It seems deep down, so far down I never knew it, but I think I must be a police officer.Clay Palmer, a student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, honked his car horn when he saw a policeman turn on blue flashers to pass through a red traffic light. The officer then turned the flashers off after moving through the intersection.
Palmer said officer Matthew Puglise then stopped his patrol car and issued him a ticket for honking his horn for no reason -- a violation of the city noise ordinance.
"The horn blowing is not the real problem here, it's that you were trying to correct the police and they didn't need correcting," Judge Russell Bean said. You see, I DON'T NEED CORRECTING EITHER. So I must be a Police Officer. You know, since I'm better than you.

Wow. That kid is an ass.
Screw that.. That kid is my new hero. Cops are NOT more importnat than you... Cops are NOT better than you. Cops are just civl servants. Sometimes they do great and heroic things, but that doen't give them the right to break the law.

I really don't mind cops. When I was in an accident last year, they were so awesome with me and with my daughter. To be fair though, I really don't go out of my way to interact with them.
One thing that really does piss me off is their driving. I hate when they are tailgating you. I see it all the time. You tailgate and it is considered aggressive driving, a police officer does it and it is just fine.
I don't hate cops either, but they don't get to break the law. I've hung out with cops who drink and drive. I know of cops who get high. Cops that speed for no reason. Cops (and family members with FOP tags) park in Handicap spots.
I'm pissed at these types of actions.
A cop will break the law and without batting an eye, and then arrest you or I in a heartbeat for doing the same thing. It's the police mentality that they are somehow better than everyone else.
And while we're at it... What's our recourse when we see this type of actions? Honking? Nope. How about filing a complaint? Read that last link. There really isn't. Police officers DON'T ARREST THEMSELVES!
As you said Linda, I don't mind them, but I often don't interact with them. I don't interact with them because they have too much power over me without much accountability.

Anyone who puts his or her life on the line for the safety of others is a hell of a lot more important than me.
Going through a traffic light, illegal or not, is hardly something to take issue with.
So cop runs over little baby Chowda 'cause he didn't feel like waiting at a light, well that's just cool by you.
Running a light is a law. Cops have no more rights than you or I. They are not royality. They are not super-natural. If cops can run a light for no freaking reason, so should I.

Wasn't he ultimately just exercising his first amendment rights? Seems to me it is a form of protected speech (political speech). If the noise is a problem, go after the car company - honking your horn is now illegal, but only as applied to police.
More concerning to me are the judge's comments. The officer apparently did need to be corrected - he ran a light because he felt like it. That comment has nothing to do with noise - it has to do with telling people they can't complain about the police. Impeach that judge.
First of all, cops aren't "civil servants." That is the GS level short-sleved government bureaucrat wasting your tax dollars working 6 hours a day.
Second of all, I think your issue is really with the noise ordinance. The cop was just doing his job.
Third, the cop put his lights on to go through the light. It didn't sound to me like he was reckless the least bit.
Three strikes and you're out.
1. Civil Service is defined as "all appointive positions in the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the Government of the United States." (United States Code Title 5 ยง 2101)
2. I think I know my point and it isn't the noise ordinance.
As Kid Handsome said, the problem is the cop issued a ticket to someone solely because he (cop) was critized. The method or vehicle for the punishment was the noise violation. Cars have horns and people use them. Not the point at all. Directly from the story...
"The horn blowing is not the real problem here, it's that you were trying to correct the police and they didn't need correcting," Judge Russell Bean said. (my emphsis)
The police are not above criticism.
Police are only allowed to violate traffic laws in very specific situations. They can not, whenever they feel like it, speed, tailgate or run redlights. This kid had a perfectly legitiment right to Honk at this dick cop.
3. ANY TIME you drive through an intersection againt the color of the light is dangerous. If it's not, it should be legal for anyone to do it. The point is, let me make this simple...
Law = Universal. All Americans are accountable to the same law.
Cop - legitiment offical duty = All Americans
The police can not do what they want.
The police are just like you and me.
The honking kid was right AND within his legal rights to voice his opinion.
In the end, the cop broke the law and then punished someone for pointing that out.

Baseball analogies? Are you kidding me? My friend, the code you just rambled off applies only to employees of the Federal Government - specifically those classified under OPM - not local cops. (Add In)
I will agree with you that the Judge perhaps made a bad call, but it did sound like the kid was being a dick. But as for the cop, he was doing his job enforcing a local ord. (Deuce)
Holy God you wrote a lot...I win for just being less wordy.(Game)
