Healthcare Crisis

Man my blood was boiling today on the Metro. This jacknut across from me was having this heated coversation with a co-ed about how we in America are experiencing a healthcare crisis. I caught bits and pieces of it between pages of a book I was reading, but I just about lost it when I heard his rationale - here we go...get ready for this...

"When I was in grad school I had to pay for my medical costs out of pocket."

Ummm...yeah...who other's pocket should be responsibile for your medical costs if you don't have a job you bum! Get off your lazy academia ass and get a job so you can afford some decent health care. Then it got worse...

"The healthcare corporations are just out there to help the elite. They don't care about anyone else. It creates a division in society."

Ok wacko. Corporations don't have feelings. They are in this world to make money. That's it. They have no responsibility to give you charity. They have no responsibility to any social issue. And guess what...market pressures keep these guys in line to make sure we have the best damn medical support in the world. And then there was more...

"We really live in a facist society."

Wow. Dude. Do you have any idea what it is to live in a facist society? Do you have any idea what it was like for Jews in Nazi Germany? Having the freedom to choose your medical care is the furthest thing I can think of from facisim. And guess what, you also have the freedom to choose to do anything you want in America. As long as you understand your actions come with consequences...like not working and going to grad school expecting Uncle Sam to wipe your ass.
