There is something very wrong with the world...

There are some people out there that don't like traffic zooming past their street. I get that... Slow down in residential areas... However, these people are blocking traffic with furniture and other junk...

Listen to this line...
"A driver of a 4x4 didn't so much disapprove - he was too crazed and violent for that. He seemed to be made psychotic by the idea that roads could exist for anything other than him to drive on," he says.
Let me ask you this... Don't roads only exist for me to drive on?

How about this...
There were gender differences too, says Mr Dewan. Male drivers didn't seem to like the idea of driving across the carpet. But female drivers were less sympathetic and more aggressive, with a stronger "get out of my way attitude".
So, he moves into a house that's built too close to the road for him... He picked the house...He knew what the road was like... Now he thinks drivers are selfish...
As the owner of two cars, Mr Dewan says he's far from being anti-motorist, but he wants "mutual respect" between drivers and pedestrians and to stop the "deluded, selfish" way that traffic has come to dominate urban spaces.
What's even worse about this all these urban "hipsters" out there think this is just wonderful.

Am I the only sane man left in the world?

This is just plain cool

This little program uses Google Maps to allow you to see where you would end up if you dug straight through the earth. From here in Maryland, it looks like we would end up somewhere off the coast of Australia.

Anyway, it's just fun to see where you might end up.

"Gail Johnson, a volunteer ACLU lawyer who practices at a prominent Colorado criminal defense firm, will defend Davis without charge. She expects the government to arraign Davis on two federal criminal misdemeanors, if not more.

The first states that citizens must "when requested, display Government or other identifying credentials to Federal police officers or other authorized individuals." The second says that citizens must comply with "the lawful direction of Federal police officers and other authorized individuals."

The link above talks about a couple of reasons that movie viewing in theatres is way down, why most new movies suck, and why even your home viewing expreience is begining to be poisoned.

Democrats and Commies...

I know Democrats are really Communists deep down (or not so deep down), but this is just plain wrong.

It seems that some under the table deals with Venezuela is going one to provide Massachusetts with dirt cheap oil. Helping the poor. That's good right? Yep. So what's wrong?

What's the problem? Hugo is a thuggish commie. Kills people, locks em up, takes away basic human rights... i.e A friend of Democrats.

People will look at this and go, "Gee, these commies are good people." "Bush is an evil ass." "Oil companies that rely on the market are greedy"... How can Hugo make this happen, only 'cause Hugo is a little dictator and controls his country completly. Sure he can loose a tiny bit of profit to make this huge statement.

This is exactly how in-roads to communism where made during the cold war. Sell your soul (individuality, freedom, privacy) for a trinkets (weapons, oil, cash).

The thing that really pisses me off, is that the Democrats are doing this simply to score political points. They don't care about the oppression in Venezuela. They don't care about how speading illogical ideologies will hurt the country. They just care about sticking one to Bush.

Way to go, you liberal fuck-wads.

This is probably the first article I've seen that clearly articulates how difficult it is to make the case for price gouging in a market eonomy. Schoen responds to readers who are convinced that recent gas price hikes are the direct result of conspiracy against the American public.

Pretty good article.... I like this though...
Appearing on Fox’s ‘Hannity and Colmes” last week, Michael Beard of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence said, “The privatization of public safety is a dangerous situation in our society.”

I hope they add a feature for dealing with those weird freaks whose road rage is so bad that they will actually get out of the car and fight wit a complete stranger. Who Said the Domino Effect Was a Myth?

A common house sparrow in Amsterdam (somehow endangered) is tragically shot when it knocks over some dominos that people were setting up in an attempt to set a world record.

Excerpt:

"That bird was flying around and knocking over a lot of dominoes. More than 100 people from 12 countries had worked for more than a month setting them up," said Endemol spokesman Jeroen van Waardenberg.

He said the company was considering some kind of memorial or mention for the dead bird during the television broadcast Friday."

When you can't call a "bong" a "bong"

While this is a funny story... I just can't let a story be just a story...

I think the practice of changing the language (meaning not spelling) to fit your agenda is stupid. Once you start diluting the language to a point that you can't call a "bong" a "bong", what's the point?

Activist Judge? Well there are 2 mutually exclusive meanings for that phrase. What is "is"? Hell, we even have CNN reporters calling the rioters in France "African American."

Che Guevara Was A Stalinist Oppressor

I just wanted to point to the linked post because I am so tired of seeing those idiotic t-shirts everywhere. Most often they are sported by "liberals" who know nothing about him. Hopefully, if we spread the truth of this icon - namely that he was a murdering and oppressive Stalinist - people will stop wearing the damn things.

Maybe it isn't about Guevara's politics. I have heard that wearing these idiotic Che shirts is somehow supposed to demonstrate a person's individuality (a strange mutilation of the Communist ideology by the way), but if that's true then shouldn't only a few people have them?

Oh, and enjoy the picture of Che and Mao above.

Whiskey Fest

Well, I'm back...

That should have only a quarter of the sadness and half the finality as when Sam says it at the end of RoTK. (Ohh you, the red headed girl in the corset, how I can't get you out of my mind).

Anyway, Whiskey Fest Philadelphia was a lot of fun. We can call it a success 'cause I didn't end up in Harlem!!! (Never New York AGAIN!)

Though the whiskey is a highlight of the trip, it's not the only one. Hanging out with the Hero of Canton is always a great time. His two friends that came along with us were definitely the right crew for the event ( Slackers Weekend guys too ). Brown Liquor powered mayhem, ohh yeah!

The event was held in the Crystal Tea Room in a hotel that faces City Hall. Not too bad of a walk from HoC's house. The joint was nice, the crowd slightly better than the one in New York, though the Whiskey selection slightly smaller. There was still a pretty good Whiskey showing although this year there seemed to be a lot more other spirits taking up space. I've got nothing against Gin, Vodka, and Tequila... But it doesn't belong at Whiskey Fest.

It's kind of odd. I didn't really try too much that was new to me this year. I knew what was good and headed for that.

Bruichladdich, Laphroaig, Dalmore, Macallan, Ardbeg, Isle of Jura, and Bowmore all had their classics present. Just having drinks from these guys was well worth the ticket price. It's nice to taste some of the best drinks money can buy.

Suntory, a Japanese Whiskey was a pleasant surprise. I had a glass of Rebel Yell (and yes they poured me a glass) because they had Confederate Civil War reenactors and a hot blond in hooker boots pouring at their booth. It was pretty much crap. Real harsh and the alcohol was overpowering, I would guess only aged a year or so. There were booth babes galore. I didn't drink any, but the Hendricks Gin girl was silly hot. I'm embarrassed to say I had some Dewars, cause the girl at that booth told me to.

The Bowmore Master Distiller was there again. Once again, he was paying attention to the pretty women and not hooking me up with the stuff he keeps hidden. It's his whiskey, but still... Let me try it, I'll appreciate it more then the guy who doesn't drink Scotch but has a hot wife. Next year I'm bringing an escort. It would be worth a couple hundred dollars to try a whiskey that was older than my Grandparents.

After Whiskey Festival there was the required “Too much drinking to be smart”. That's always fun. At Good Dog I got to drink some Stone Arrogant Bastard. Normally a treat in itself for me (though I did loose my Rebel Yell swag there). From Good Dog we went out elsewhere, I met the Red Head with the Angel wing tattoos (infatuation? Yeah... I think so). Then, 'cause we didn't have enough to drink, we headed to an after hours bar.

Good times... good times....

Anyway...

"Beer Snobs" May Live Longer

Here is an excerpt from the article:

"What Stevens and others are discovering is that xanthohumol has several unique effects. Along with inhibiting tumor growth and other enzymes that activate cancer cells, it also helps the body make unhealthy compounds more water-soluble, so they can be excreted. "

and another:

Still, no one knows how much beer is needed to reap the benefits. Mice studies show that the compound is metabolized quickly by the body, so it's hard to get a large amount in the body at one time, Stevens said. (KH: Not hard, just drink more)

"It clearly has some interesting chemo-preventive properties, and the only way people are getting any of it right now is through beer consumption," he said.

The best part is that only the really good hoppy beers have this chemical - so put that Budweiser down.

KH - getting progressively thirstier

Men and Women...

When it comes to friendship, here's the difference between the sexes.

If a woman doesn't come home to her husband one night, and the next day she tells him she slept over at a friend's house, the man calls his wife's 10 best friends and none of them know anything about it.

If a man doesn't come home to his wife one night, and the next day he tells her he slept over at a friend's house, she calls her husband's 10 best friends-eight of them say he did sleep over, and two claim he's still there.

Talk About Ridiculous

Apparently a woman broke up with some guy a couple years back. He then found another girl and/or otherwise moved on with his life. She gets back in touch with him and invites him over. She even goes so far as to pick him up. Here is an excerpt from the link above:

"So, when O'Toole invited him over to her Murrysville home to rekindle a friendship, he said he agreed.
Slaby said O'Toole even went to his house in Pittsburgh to pick him up.
But according to Slaby, the night took a turn when O'Toole got angry about Slaby's new love.
Slaby said O'Toole waited until he fell asleep and glued his penis to his stomach, glued his testicle to his leg and glued the cheeks of his buttocks together.

Then came the nail polish.

Slaby claimed O'Toole dumped it all over his head.

When he woke up, Slaby said O'Toole threw him out.

He didn't have a car, so he was forced to walk one mile down Route 22 to call 911 and Murrysville police, Slaby said."

Anyway, they are awaiting the verdict of the civil trial. In the criminal trial, the lady got a simple assault conviction and six months of probation. That seems absurdly lenient to me.

Quick question (and I'm just wondering), do you think a man would have gotten a similar sentence for a similar act?

Alito - The New Supreme Court Nominee

Someone asked me about my views on the new SCOTUS nominee. They also brought up his similarities with Scalia and mentioned his nickname (Scalito). My take is that I don't like him, based on what little I know.

Some of that is due to the fact that I don't like Scalia. See, I like Scalia's rhetoric about how he is supposed to operate on the Court, but the fact is that he doesn't practice what he preaches. He's a huge hypocrite in that his decisions are not consistent with what he claims to believe. Essentially, he practices originalism for some laws and overly broad and activist based interpretations for others, mostly in deferring in any way possible to the executive branch, but especially when it comes to absolutely eviscerating Amendments 4,5, and 6. I guess it's too bad that I'm not all that surprised for a Bush nominee.

Give the man one set of facts and he will rule one way. Give him the same set of facts, but apply it to the government's rights to detain, search and seize property, and he comes out the other way. If Alito is anything like Scalia - he probably sucks. Unfortunately, I hear that the only difference between the two is that Scalia is the better writer (Scalia is the best writer on the court - especially when he is true to his originalist ideas).

For my money, Clarence Thomas is the best justice on the Supreme Court. He actually respects the fact that the Constitution was meant to protect individuals. He's conservative, but he's consistent - regardless of whether that hurts or helps the federal government.

Anyway, I really wanted Janice Rogers Brown.

KH - plotting revolution.
